What You've Missed
PREMIERES
The CDT regularly presents national premieres of important new films. We
regularly procure films through the cooperation of a number of the world's
most prestigious international film festivals. See a list of our partners.
FILM CYCLES AND TRAVELING SCREENINGS
A rotating series of retrospectives, tributes and theme-based cycles. These cycles have thus far included
a Syrian film retrospective in partnernship with ArteEast, a Latin American documentary cycle with Instituto Cervantes,
a reprise of the films from BIACS (Comtemporary Art Bienniale of Seville) and others...
DOCUDAY SUNDAYS
On Sundays, the Rif Cinéma offers a series of documentary films to
the public, members, students and cinephiles. These films are often completely new
to Moroccan audiences. This series will include retrospectives of both
classic and emerging documentary filmmakers. Retrospectives in the works include the work of: Raymond Depardon, D. A. Pennebaker, Albert and David Mayles, Agnes Varda, Peter Watkins, Johan Van der
Keuken, Frederick Wiseman, Chantal Akerman, Nicolas Philibert, Danielle
Arbid, Maximiliano Lemcke, and others.
CHILDRENS' DAYS
The CdT pays special attention to its young audience members. We have early weekend screenings reserved for children's pictures. Once
a month, in partnership with the Swiss association Magic Lantern,
we offer a special workshop screening which introduces young people to the cinema (history, technique,
aesthetics, and themes). Magic Lantern have run their excellent workshops for children throughout Europe.
WORKSHOPS
In partnership with Documentary Filmmakers
Group, London , the CdT hosts
two DocMaroc workshops per year for aspiring documentary filmmakers
from Morocco and pairs them up with similarly passionate individuals from all over the world. Students train
in camerawork, production, editing
theory and history of cinema and documentary. At the end of the course in order to create their own 3-minute documentaries
about the unsung heros, daily changes and ancient rituals that contribute to the
vibrancy and energy alive in Tangier today.
FACE-TO-FACE
Whenever possible we offer previews, career retrospectives and Q&A
sessions with directors and others directly involved with the films
presented in our programs.
Special guests (artists, filmmakers, writers, critics, and festival directors and programmers) are be
invited to host special Carte Blanche programs of films which they
select, program and present.
Additionally, the CDT uses the Rif to host live theater,
readings and forums on subjects related to the world of the cinema.
Most recently the Rif was home to round-tables, screenings and a play during the
Salon International du Livre de Tanger.
