OUAGA GIRLS

BY THERESA TRAORE DAHLBERG

OUAGA GIRLS

Bintou, Chantal and Dina are studying to become mechanics at a school in Ouagadougou. On the programme: sparks under the hood, oily hands, and above all, the joyful overturning of prejudice: no job should be prohibited to women in a country where youth unemployment stands at 52%! The classmates become a port of safety, joy and sisterhood for one another as they transition from adolescence to adulthood in a country seething with political change.
